v5.1.0 Minor Update
August 2026

Export sizing, one typeface, working forms

Every raster export is now sized from the printed page your paper format and DPI imply — the DPI selector previously did nothing for PNG. The site also dropped to a single self-hosted typeface, and the newsletter runs on one backend that really posts.

  • Paper format + DPI drive PNG, JPG, clipboard and PDF alike
  • JPG export, alongside PNG, PDF, SVG and grid-only PNG
  • One typeface site-wide — 84KB a page, down from 251–386KB
v5.0.0 Major Update
May 2026

Catalogue & Public API

A 286-page editorial library spanning 11 category hubs and the full 82-overlay catalogue, and a public overlay data API under CC BY 4.0.

v4.5.0 Minor Update
April 2026

Sacred Geometry, Typography & Architecture Hubs

Sacred geometry hub launched with all 20 traditions (Flower of Life through Platonic Solids), the typography + design templates hubs, and the Le Corbusier Modulor calculator under architecture grids.

  • 20-overlay sacred geometry hub
  • Typography hub (6 overlays incl. 12-col web grid)
  • Modulor proportion calculator
  • Per-overlay color + opacity + line width controls

Version 5.1.0

Minor Update
August 2026

New Features

  • JPG export, alongside the existing PNG, PDF, SVG and transparent grid-only PNG
  • Print-accurate export sizing: PNG, JPG, the grid-only PNG, copy-to-clipboard and the PDF's embedded image are all sized from the printed page implied by your paper format at the DPI you choose
  • 50 classroom-ready lesson plans with objectives, session timings and materials lists

Improvements

  • One self-hosted typeface across the whole site and the tool — font payload per page fell from 251–386KB spread over as many as 20 files to 84KB
  • Newsletter signup consolidated onto a single component with one working backend, replacing four divergent implementations
  • Glossary expanded to 88 entries
  • Accessibility: an automated axe sweep now reports zero violations across all 411 routes

Bug Fixes

  • The export DPI selector had no effect on PNG output, which was sized from the on-screen canvas instead of the chosen page and resolution
  • Before/after comparison tabs on the 82 overlay pages painted the first photo whatever tab you picked
  • Two signup forms reported success without sending anything; one posted to a URL that returned 404
  • Button labels across 24 routes rendered in a muted grey that failed contrast, and CTAs on 22 routes painted as plain text with no button styling
  • Buttons sat flush against neighbouring text and panels on the overlay and lesson-plan pages

  • Flagship pillar at /learn/82-composition-overlays
  • Founder + methodology E-E-A-T anchor pages
  • Public overlay data API at /api/overlays.json (CC BY 4.0)
  • Named workspace presets saved locally in the browser
  • Hero tool deep-links: ?overlay= to pre-load overlays, plus a shareable #share state URL
  • CSS-only mega-menu in the site header

  • Removed any remaining server-side processing — now 100% client-side
  • Dropped support for IE11 and pre-2022 browser builds

2024–2025 history

Summary
Launch through Oct 2025

Grid Maker Pro launched in late 2024 with 6 overlays — square, rectangular, custom grid, rule of thirds, golden ratio, and the basic diagonal method. Through 2025 the catalogue grew to ~40 overlays based on user requests, with the dynamic symmetry root rectangles, golden spiral, the first head-construction guides (Loomis), and the early perspective grids landing across the year. Founder narrative is at /about/sujith-puthran/; the long-form methodology is at /methodology/.

What we're exploring

Directions we're weighing for upcoming releases — shaped by what people ask for. Nothing here is promised or dated, and every idea stays inside the rule that reference images never leave your device.

Near term

Active work

More overlays in the library

Ongoing

The catalogue grows as people request grids we don't yet cover. New overlays ship free into the existing 82, with a leaf page and a deep-link the moment they land.

Touch & tablet polish

Ongoing

Steady refinement of touch targets, pinch-zoom, and transform handles so the tool feels native on an iPad or a drawing tablet, not just a desktop mouse.

Wider paper and DPI coverage

Ongoing

Paper formats and print resolutions up to 600 DPI already drive every export (v5.1.0). The remaining work is coverage — more sheet sizes, and presets for the surfaces people actually transfer onto.

Longer term

Ideas we're weighing

Accessibility improvements

Ongoing

Continued work toward our WCAG 2.2 AA target — keyboard paths, contrast, and screen-reader labelling across the tool and the catalogue.

Offline reliability

Exploring

Hardening the service worker so the whole tool keeps working without a connection once you've opened it — fitting for something that already runs entirely in-browser.

Note: these are directions, not commitments — priorities shift with user feedback. Want something specific? Use the request form below.

What happens next

1

It reaches Sujith

Grid Maker Pro is built by one person, so requests go straight to his inbox — no ticket queue, and no team behind it.

2

It gets weighed

Requests that keep coming up set the order of work. That is how sacred geometry, typography and the architecture grids got built.

Free and browser-only is the right shape for this kind of tool. I keep three tabs open during any project — one per overlay I'm comparing.

Lower friction means I actually use it, not save it for special occasions. Every overlay one click away.
